A YSI team from Wicklow Youthreach have just finished producing a series of short films funded through the Young Social Innovators Fund following a successful pitch by the team at the YSI Dragons Den. The series aims to highlight responsible drinking among young people and to educate them on the negative consequences of binge drinking.

The team whose project was entitled 'Alcohol, The Great Fall', also plan to create a teaching and discussion guide to accompany the DVD which they want to distribute to schools and Youthreach Centres.

Wicklow Youthreach, The Further Education Centre, completed their YSI project in 2010-2011. Their aim was to inform and educateyoung people on the pressures and consequences of binge drinking.

The team sought and received funding from the YSI Den towards the development of their own school-friendly videos creating a series of short stories on the negative effects of alcohol. They aimed to take a new approach to encourage young people to watch what they drink and to know their limits. The team was awarded €500 to cover the cost of producing a DVD by the YSI Dragons.

The team enjoyed a facilitated song writing workshop during the Centre’s summer programme in June by a company called Craftzone. They then spent two days making their production.

According to the group, the films are short, their message is clear and the team hopes they will have a real impact highlighting the negative effects of binge drinking.
